Nick Versteeg of DV Cuisine and
Irene McGuinness of I.M. Marketing
joined forces to offer a culinary
getaway weekend from October 24-26,
2003 at the scenic Ruby Lake Resort
on the Sunshine Coast. The theme
"To Love Food is to Love Life"
weekend was a tremendous success
owing to its inspiring focus on
education, experience and entertainment.
The focus throughout the weekend
was on local food and aimed at providing
that ideal mix of fun and information.
Chef Chris Mills, who represented
Canada at the famous 2002 Bocuse
d'Or culinary competition, was our
first guest chef and created a seven
course meal of gastronomic glee
paired with wines by Daniel Liddy,
GM of Whistler's Val d'Isere.
A variety of seminars on food issues
and unusual food was giving people
"food for thought" which
added a lot to the total experience.
On Saturday afternoon our guests
were free to enjoy the beautiful
surroundings, which included a boat
trip up the Hawthum Sound and a
visit to an organic fish farm, while
the other group went on a chanterelle
mushroom hunt guided by Aldo Cogrossi.
Our guests came back revitalized
and in awe.
