Culinary Weekend at Sooke Harbour House
a tremendous success
Nick Versteeg, producer of
DV Cuisine and Sinclair Philip, owner of Sooke Harbour House
joined forces to offer another inspiring culinary weekend
from February 25-27, 2005 at the scenic Sooke Harbour
House, situated on Vancouver island's wild coastline on the
strait of Juan de Fuca.
The focus throughout the weekend was on food education and
tasting of local food, spices and herbs, edible flowers and
an abundance of fresh local seafood. A variety of fascinating
film seminars on food related issues were presented by Nick
Versteeg. The Sunday morning seminar focused especially on
the topic of the "Slow Food" movement in Canada
and the world. We were fortunate to have Alessandra Abbona
with us, who is a gourmet chef in Piedmonte, and one of the
top leaders of the Slow Food movement in Italy.
We were also very honoured to have Vicki Gabereau and Bill
Good amidst our culinary guests. On Saturday afternoon everyone
was free to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, or take part
in a fabulous wine-tasting seminar, conducted by Sinclair
Philip, and his son Benjamin, who are both extremely knowledgeable
on BC wines.
There is no doubt that our guests left relaxed and inspired
and, judging from our evaluation sheets, we believe that everyone
is eager to come back to have a second taste of this wonderful
culinary weekend.
Our guests said:
"Accolades to you! An exquisite weekend - intimate
and engaged, culinary and dangerous. Count us in again!"
"Thank you for an "incredible
edible" experience, set in an exquisite natural bounty!
Every element was thoughtfully and elegantly executed. We
feel so spoiled and so excited by all we learned. Congratulations!"
"What a swell weekend - food, wine and entertainment.
Thank you so much!"
